About ThinkTOK

ThinkTOK is a discussion series for young people about life online.

Social media, AI, online communities, influencers, friendships, algorithms, identity, reputation — today's young people are growing up in a world unlike any previous generation.

ThinkTOK provides a space to slow down, think together, and explore some of the questions that emerge from living online.

Rather than lectures or lessons, ThinkTOK uses facilitated discussion to help participants share ideas, challenge assumptions, listen carefully, and develop their own thinking.

What We'll Explore

 Topics may include:

  • Being yourself online
  • Social media and influence
  • AI and decision-making
  • Popularity, reputation, and respect
  • Friendship and relationships online
  • Truth, misinformation, and trust
  • Digital habits and wellbeing
  • What kind of online world we want to create

Example questions include:

  • Is it possible to be yourself online?
  • What makes someone influential?
  • Is popularity the same as respect?
  • If an AI gives good advice, should you trust it?
  • What responsibilities do we have to one another online?

Thinking Skills

Throughout the program, participants will practise:

  • Asking thoughtful questions
  • Giving reasons for their views
  • Listening respectfully to others
  • Evaluating arguments and evidence
  • Identifying assumptions
  • Considering different perspectives
  • Reflecting on their own beliefs
  • Making thoughtful decisions in complex situations

These are valuable skills not only for life online, but for school, work, relationships, and citizenship more broadly.

Our Approach

ThinkTOK is facilitated by Andy Vaszolyi, founder of Philosophy for Everybody.

The program draws on Andy's experience facilitating philosophical discussions with schools, libraries, community groups, aged care residents, and healthcare professionals.

At its heart, ThinkTOK is built around a simple idea:

Young people are capable of thinking deeply about the world they live in.

Sometimes they just need the opportunity.
